Master Carpet Company (Qld) Pty Ltd commenced operations in Queensland in 1972 as an extension of the successful Sydney company of the same name. Originally located at Moorooka and then Springwood, branches in Townsville (1981) and Cairns (1989) followed as the company grew to become the major supplier of floorcoverings to the Queensland construction industry.

In July 1989, Mike Dunn, who was General Manager of Feltex Carpets Australia, was invited to become a full partner in the company in order to provide fresh impetus to meet the growing competition.

The difficult economic times of the early 90’s affected all companies associated with the construction industry and Master Carpet Company was no exception.

As part of the plan for the growth of Master Carpet Company they effectively took over the staff and ongoing business of their largest rival, Kelwin Carpets Pty Ltd, including their strategically placed and successful Gold Coast Branch and began trading as Master Kelwin Floors.

In July 1998 Master Carpet Company relocated their Head Office and warehouse to Yatala to accommodate continued anticipated growth.

As part of this growth plan, Master Kelwin Floors established a branch operation on the Sunshine Coast in November 2000.

It also became evident that there was a need for a professional floor preparation company, so in March 2004 we established Master Floor Preparers, which already employs eight people.
